Role Summary

Specialty Representative, Rheumatology - Jersey City, NJ. This field-based role executes brand strategy and tactics in the field, drives sales performance, and effectively manages the assigned territory and targeted accounts. The role focuses on building strong customer relationships and solving customer needs to maximize short- and long-term sales while operating within AbbVie’s code of conduct, policies, and all applicable laws and regulations. Geography covers Jersey City, Edison, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed set goals.
  • Create pre-call plans with SMART objectives and perform post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance; address objections and ensure calls to action lead to closed sales.
  • Aspire to serve customer needs and expectations to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements between AbbVie and customers.
  • Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
  • Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory landscape, competitors, market segments, accounts, disease states, product, clinical and sales knowledge, and share market intelligence with in-field team, brand team, and sales manager.
  • Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with health providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy or business-related field or equivalent industry experience; or alternative combination as specified. If no bachelor’s degree, at least five (5) years of industry experience with three (3) or more years in pharmaceutical/health/science preferred; high school diploma/GED required.
  • Required: Proven track record of success in selling and strong presentation skills; ability to identify customer style/behavior and adapt selling approach; provide innovative ideas to maximize opportunities and respond to changes.
  • Required: Influences others and is viewed as a credible role model; builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams; demonstrates positive behaviors and peer coaching.
  • Required: Documented leadership and ability to increase responsibility at district/region/organizational levels; uses findings to develop sales strategies.
  • Preferred: Proven track record of sales performance within respective therapeutic areas; experience in physician/account-based selling, training, managed health care, or marketing; English proficiency verbally and in writing (for non-English speaking markets).
  • Required: Satisfy all applicable health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain/maintain entry into facilities and organizations in the territory; in good standing or eligible to obtain credentials.
  • Required: Valid driver’s license and ability to pass pre-employment drug screen; ability to drive personal auto or company car or truck; may involve operating a powered equipment vehicle.
  • Required: Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge; recognized as an expert resource; strong business acumen; able to operate effectively in a matrix environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy or business-related field preferred or equivalent industry experience required.

Additional Requirements

  • HCIR credentialing requirements for entry into facilities and organizations in the assigned territory; you must be in good standing and eligible to obtain credentials.
  • These HCIR requirements may include background checks, drug screens, immunizations, fingerprinting, and state/city-specific licenses; you are responsible for satisfying all requirements and related liabilities.
  • Travel within the territory as needed to meet business objectives; valid driver’s license required.
