Responsibilities
- Support patients/families through steps to gain and maintain access to therapy (education, site-of-care coordination, understanding payer policies, support services).
- Advocate for patients in cross-functional case planning with internal partners (Case Management, Account Executive, Market Access & Reimbursement).
- Identify and resolve patient access barriers (insurance coverage, reimbursement, financial limitations, site of care, procurement/distribution issues).
- Partner with Market Access & Reimbursement to ensure appropriate reimbursement and engagement with payers, specialty pharmacies, and specialty distributors.
- Provide strong emotional support; monitor changes in the patient access environment and communicate impacts.
- Complete comprehensive patient/family needs assessments (payer policies/plan designs including Medicaid when applicable; local healthcare system).
- Offer solutions, including alternative insurance options and resource connections.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on products and Biogen patient services; promote rare disease awareness.
- Build local rare disease networks/relationships and serve as primary source for local/regional patient advocacy.
Qualifications
- 5+ years healthcare/biotech experience with 3+ years field-based account management, sales, and/or field reimbursement (rare disease experience preferred).
- Strong track record in field reimbursement, clinical education, or pharma sales/management with payer/reimbursement involvement.
- Experience with physician-administered drugs/biologics and outpatient sites of service.
- Mature knowledge of field/patient reimbursement, charitable funding, and nonprofit organizations.
- Ability to lead cross-functionally/influence without authority; case management/patient support experience a plus.
- Familiar with biotech legal/regulatory environment.
- Strong EQ, communication, listening, empathy (bilingual Spanish plus).
- Effective with complex individualized cases; comfort traveling ~60%.
- Valid driverβs license and acceptable driving record required.
Education: BS required; masterβs degree a plus.
