Patient Advocacy
Role Responsibilities
- Support patients/families through non-clinical steps to start and stay on rare disease therapy (education, site-of-care coordination, understanding payer policies/procedures, and support services).
- Advocate for patients in cross-functional meetings; build/maintain accurate case plans with internal partners (Case Management, Account Executive, Market Access & Reimbursement).
- Identify and drive resolution of access barriers (insurance coverage, reimbursement, financial limitations, site of care, procurement/distribution).
- Partner with Market Access & Reimbursement to secure appropriate reimbursement via payers, specialty pharmacies, and distributors.
- Provide emotional support; proactively monitor access-environment changes and communicate with patients/caregivers.
- Conduct comprehensive patient need assessments (payer/plan design incl. Medicaid when applicable; local healthcare system).
- Provide solutions, including alternative insurance options and resource connections.
- Educate patients/families/caregivers on product and Biogen Patient services; develop rare-disease awareness activities.
- Build local rare disease relationships (advocacy groups/events; national conferences) and serve as primary local/regional patient advocacy source.

Qualifications
- 5+ years healthcare/biotech experience; 3+ years field-based in account management, sales, and/or field reimbursement (rare disease preferred).
- Proven field reimbursement/clinical education/pharma sales experience with strong payer involvement.
- Experience with physician-administered drugs/biologics and outpatient sites.
- Familiar with charitable funding/non-profits and relevant legal/regulatory environment.
- Cross-functional leadership/influencing without authority; case management/patient-caretaker support a plus.
- Strong EQ, communication, listening, and empathy (Spanish bilingual a plus).
- Manage complex individualized cases; travel ~60%; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
- Education: BS required (master’s a plus).
