Role Summary
The Sickle Cell Patient Affairs Liaison (SCCS) is a field-based, non-sales, non-promotional, community-facing role serving as the primary point of contact for Sickle Cell Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), advocacy groups, patients, and caregivers. The role focuses on liaisoning with CBOs, educating about patient support resources, and connecting communities to Pfizer programs and services, while collaborating with legal, compliance, and marketing to ensure ethical conduct. The position reports to U.S. Rare Disease National Patient Affairs Liaison Directors and aims to address gaps in education, access to care, and patient engagement along the healthcare journey.
Responsibilities
- The role centers on Customer Engagement, CBO Account Management, and cross-functional collaboration to meet the needs of the Sickle Cell community, including leading people without positional authority
- Identify gaps and challenges faced by CBOs and convene internal teams to support solutions for people living with SCD
- Identify key stakeholders, CBO capabilities, and local market needs related to capacity building for the SCD community
- Develop trusted partnerships with Sickle Cell leaders to support education, patient empowerment, and access to care
- Understand local, regional, and national healthcare issues and best practices in SCD
- Elevate the work of National/Regional CBOs and share with the broader community through Pfizer SME functions
- Gather insights from stakeholders to develop mutually beneficial action plans for Pfizer and the SCD community
- Deliver comprehensive overviews of patient resources and programs at Pfizer-sponsored events
- Identify opportunities to educate on SCD treatment importance and optimize therapy
- Develop collaborative partnerships to broaden reach in education, access to care, and empowerment
- Manage budgets to prioritize commitments aligned with Pfizer and assigned CBOs and maximize strategic collaborations
- Collaborate with RD Managers to align patient offerings with local market dynamics
- Prioritize Pfizer support to maximize impact for the SCD community
- Identify best practices and scale initiatives regionally and nationally
- Serve as a local expert on evolving healthcare landscape and health system dynamics affecting SCD
- Provide insights to inform educational materials for patient engagement and support resources
- Ensure engagement with patients and advocacy groups meets Pfizerβs standards of conduct and compliance
- Maintain annual budget planning for regional CBO needs and conduct needs assessments with CBOs
- Communicate insights on the competitive landscape within Rare Disease to cross-functional teams
- Schedule travel and prepare materials for local, regional, and national events
- Maintain administrative responsibilities (expense reports, budget/activity trackers, program initiation/closure, team calendars)
- Stay aware of government landscape within Rare Disease at local, regional, and national levels
Qualifications
- Required: B.S. or B.A. degree
- Required: Minimum 5β7 years in the pharmaceutical industry or related experience, preferably in Rare Disease
- Required: Exceptional communication, listening, and presentation skills
- Required: Ability to work in a highly regulated environment and comply with company guidelines
- Required: Track record of collaborating with diverse customers, clients, and stakeholders
- Required: Responsible business practices and compassionate written and verbal communication
- Required: Valid US driverβs license and driving record in compliance with company standards
