Join us in revolutionizing Infrastructure Operations with AI and Automation. The Cloud and Connectivity organization is seeking multiple VMware ESX Platform Operations Engineers.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Support and manage enterprise VMware ESX-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) capabilities both on-premises and in Microsoft Azure.
- Maintain system stability, automate operational tasks, and ensure high availability for critical workloads.
- Leverage AI automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to streamline engineering workflows.
- Maintain multi-datacenter stretch clusters supporting Lilly Manufacturing and research sites; improve availability and reliability via repeatable patterns, observability improvements, and new architectural designs.
- Provide mentorship and direction to global operations SMEs/other platform SMEs.
How You’ll Succeed:
- Drive AI OPS, event-driven automation, and observability to prevent repeat issues and proactively reduce outages.
What You Should Bring (Qualifications/Skills):
- 4+ years as a VMware ESX/Platform Engineer; Bachelor’s in CS/IT/related field.
- Strong VMware administration and server virtualization experience.
- Hands-on experience with availability/resiliency (VMware/vSphere/storage replication) at enterprise scale.
- Experience with AI-driven automation tools (Claude Code/Codex or similar).
- Knowledge of modern VMware ESX/Azure VMware Service and cloud IaaS (EC2/Azure Compute); bonus: Python/JSON/YAML/ARM/Git.
- Networking concepts (VLANs/trunking) and VMware networking (Distributed Switches/vDS).
- Plus: Zerto, VMware HCX, and leading global large-scale ESX infrastructure operations.
Additional Information:
- Onsite in Indianapolis, IN (relocation required); shift hours 11:30am–8:30pm EST / 12:30–9:30pm EDT; rotations Mon–Fri or Thu–Mon; <5% travel.
