What You’ll Be Doing
- Support and manage enterprise VMware ESX Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) capabilities on-premises and in Microsoft Azure.
- Maintain system stability, automate operational tasks, and ensure high availability for critical workloads.
- Improve efficiency using AI automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
- Operate multi-datacenter, multi-site stretch clusters supporting Lilly Manufacturing and research.
- Improve availability/reliability via repeatable patterns, new architectures, and observability to prevent outages.
- Provide mentorship and direction to global operations SMEs.

How You’ll Succeed
- Adopt AI OPS, Event Driven Automation, and Observability to avoid repeating issues.
- Accelerate AI OPS automation, cloud IaaS management, and infrastructure as code.
- Use proactive/predictive automated AI + Observability to transform operations.

What You Should Bring (Qualifications & Skills)
- Linux/Windows; VMware vSphere; storage (Dell SAN) or cloud certifications (bonus).
- Technical leadership delivering enterprise infrastructure across multiple global locations.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure availability/resiliency and replication at enterprise scale (VMware/vSphere/storage replication; Windows/Linux).
- Experience with AI-driven automation tools (Claude Code/Codex or similar).
- Bonus: modern VMware ESX, Azure VMware Service, EC2/Azure Compute; Python/JSON/YAML/ARM/Git.
- Networking fundamentals (VLANs/trunking); configure VMware networking incl. vDS.
- Plus: Zerto and VMware HCX; experience leading global large-scale ESX operations.

Your Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (CS/IT or related).
- 4+ years as a VMware ESX / Platform Engineer.
- US work authorization required (no visa sponsorship).

Onsite/Other
- Onsite in Indianapolis, IN (relocation required). Less than 5% travel; shift hours: 11:30am–8:30pm EST/12:30–9:30pm EDT; Mon–Fri / Thu–Mon.

Compensation & Benefits (as stated)
- Anticipated wage: $64,500–$151,800; bonus eligibility; 401(k), pension, vacation, and medical/dental/vision/prescription benefits plus flexible benefits, life insurance, time off/leave, and well-being benefits.
