Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to design, development, optimization, and scale-up of manufacturing processes for synthetic molecule drug substances using process modeling and simulation.
- Use process modeling tools and digital twins; implement model-based design of experiments for characterization and risk assessment.
- Lead experimental designs/workflows for model development, validation, and verification.
- Collaborate to develop/deploy digital twins of unit operations with cross-functional and external partners.
- Partner with Automation, Manufacturing, Process Engineers, and PAT experts to deploy modeling/simulation solutions for in-silico process design, development, and optimization.
- Recommend and implement “in-silico first” tools/approaches; democratize modeling/simulation outputs.
- Analyze technical issues and coordinate resolutions based on model/simulation predictions; review and communicate data cross-functionally.
- Author regulatory documents/validation plans/reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts; manage vendor relationships; support pre-competitive academic/industrial collaborations.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s (11+ yrs), Master’s (9+ yrs), or PhD/postdoc (3+ yrs) in Chemical Engineering or related pharmaceutical science.
- Strong knowledge of chemical reaction engineering/catalysis; transport phenomena; thermodynamics.
- Reaction kinetics modeling software (e.g., Ansys, ReactionLab, Dynochem, gPROMS) and CFD (e.g., Ansys, Star CCM+, MStar CFD).
- Data collection/communication from sensors/controllers; Matlab, Python, R, SQL, and coding best practices.

Preferred:
- Statistical methods, data science, AI/ML; wet lab process development.
- Multivariate analysis/PCA; understanding of synthetic molecule process development and cGMP.
