Senior Scientist, Analytical and Purification Sciences (APS)
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high productivity in the laboratory.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemistry teams by developing methods and providing technical guidance to solve analytical and purification problems.
- Innovate to develop efficient workflows for sample prioritization and client communication.
- Execute compound purification on milligram to gram scale using preparative HPLC and/or SFC for small molecule drug discovery.
- Maintain analytical/preparative HPLC and SFC instrumentation and independently troubleshoot issues.
- Proactively mentor colleagues in technical development and working relationships.
- May supervise one or more direct reports.
- Stay current with literature and industry trends; propose and implement new initiatives in high-throughput purification/analytical technologies.
- Optimize equipment/personnel and improve purification workflows; support efficiency and new paradigms in medicinal chemistry.
- Maintain scientific standards and safe laboratory practices.
- Keep accurate, current research/project records per AbbVie policies.
Qualifications
Basic
- PhD or MS in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related fields (0+ years postdoc/industry with PhD; 8+ with MS; 10+ with BS).
- Hands-on experience with analytical and preparative HPLC and/or SFC.
- Ability to operate/troubleshoot analytical and preparative instrumentation hardware/software.
- Knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and strong communication with medicinal chemistry teams.
- Proven record of chiral/achiral purification on milligram to gram scale.
- Effective written/verbal communication; interact with scientists/engineers.
Preferred
- Peptide analytical/purification techniques.
- Fast-paced purification group experience; communication with medicinal chemistry teams.
- Reversed-phase (HPLC) separations.
- Chiral separations (HPLC/SFC).
- Instrument development, automation, programming, and data analytics.
