Role Summary
Senior Scientist - Functional Genomics will join an enthusiastic, fast-paced team using cutting-edge omics and cellular profiling to drive target discovery, validation, and progression across Amgen’s therapeutic areas. The role involves high-throughput screening, development of downstream mechanistic assays, technology evaluation, and close collaboration with disease area, human genetics, computational biology, and therapeutic development teams to make actionable decisions as a technical subject matter expert.
Responsibilities
- Conduct impactful high throughput screening and profiling approaches for target discovery
- Help identify and implement new technologies to accelerate discovery
- Develop and execute downstream mechanistic assays to validate and advance targets
- Collaborate closely with disease area, human genetics, computational biology, and therapeutic development teams to make actionable decisions as a technical and intellectual subject matter expert
- Present research findings to cross-functional groups at internal and external meetings and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed forums
Qualifications
- Required: Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD [and relevant post-doc where applicable]
- Required: Master’s degree and 3 years of directly related experience
- Required: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of directly related experience
- Preferred: Doctorate degree in genetics, genomics, cell and molecular biology, systems biology, or related disciplines
- Preferred: Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking, complex problem solving, and innovative research, evidenced by significant contributions to discovery programs and publications in top tier journals
- Preferred: Hands-on expertise conducting and delivering complex screening campaigns for discovery
Skills
- Proficiency with experimental design, data generation, and analysis principles across a broad range of technologies and assays including transcriptomics, imaging, and cytometry
- Expertise with molecular and cell biology tools such as CRISPR, overexpression constructs, lentivirus, and various approaches for cell engineering
- Strong expertise with genomic assays
- Strong expertise on prosecuting insights from human genetics along with approaches for in depth biological study of potential targets
- Experience with programming (e.g. in R/Python), Unix/Linux environments, and cloud computing environments for the analysis of large omics datasets
- Strong written, verbal, and oral communication skills and ability to thrive in cross-functional settings
