Role Summary

Senior Scientist - Cell Biology and Disease Modeling, Cambridge, MA. Develop and implement cellular models that recapitulate human disease biology, with a focus on immune-mediated diseases, and use them to evaluate therapeutic candidate efficacy and mechanism of action. This role combines hands-on cell biology expertise with strategic project leadership to accelerate therapeutic discovery through physiologically relevant disease models.

Responsibilities

  • Internalize, design and/or establish in vitro and ex vivo cellular models that reflect aspects of human disease pathophysiology, with a focus on immune-mediated diseases, and use to evaluate therapeutic candidate efficacy and mechanism-of-action
  • Implement advanced cell culture techniques including 3D cultures, co-cultures, and patient-derived systems, with multi-omic, imaging and other read-outs
  • Establish and validate cellular biomarker assays for translational research applications
  • Develop and maintain cell biology laboratory capabilities, including equipment procurement and protocol standardization
  • Collaborate with CROs to implement and transfer cellular model protocols
  • Interface cross-functionally with research teams to integrate cellular biology data into therapeutic development decisions

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's + 8 years of relevant experience OR Master’s + 5 years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. + 3 years of relevant experience
  • Required: 2+ years of biopharma industry experience in cellular model development
  • Required: Strong track record in establishing disease-relevant cellular systems
  • Required: Experience with multi-omics, cellular imaging, flow cytometry, and/or high-content analysis
  • Required: Project management experience including timeline and budget oversight
  • Preferred: Relevant experience in biopharma is preferred
  • Preferred: Experience with primary human immune and other cells and/or iPSC-derived cellular models
  • Preferred: Familiarity with CRISPR gene editing for cellular model development
  • Preferred: Experience with microfluidic or organ-on-chip technologies
  • Preferred: Experience managing CRO relationships for cellular biology work
  • Preferred: Equipment procurement and cell biology lab setup experience
  • Preferred: Demonstrated scientific creativity in disease model development
  • Preferred: Experience with mechanistic in vivo models of disease

Skills

  • Deep understanding of cellular biology and human disease mechanisms
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication of complex biological data
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with calculated risk-taking ability
