Role Summary
Senior Research Associate, Oligonucleotide Chemistry. The role involves joining the chemistry team to synthesize bioactive oligonucleotides for drug discovery programs and deliver results to project teams on tight timelines. The position reports to the Director of Chemistry and requires experience with solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis, conjugation, HPLC purification, and LC-MS analysis. Location: Bedford, MA (lab-based).
Responsibilities
- The role is primarily responsible for supporting the automated synthesis, cleavage, deprotection, purification, analysis and packaging of oligonucleotides, including heavily modified oligonucleotides.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment, including the oligonucleotide synthesizer, HPLC machines and benchtop equipment to ensure consistent and reliable oligonucleotide production.
- Performing critical evaluation and optimization of the processes to improve synthesis yield, purity and timelines for production of modified oligonucleotides
- Manage ordering and organization of chemicals and supplies necessary for oligonucleotide synthesis
- Analyzing and interpreting data as well as writing technical reports and protocols, with supervision. Presents research results at lab meetings.
- Keeps up to date on relevant scientific literature and developments to support ongoing research efforts.
Qualifications
- S. with 4 years of experience or M.S. with 2 years of relevant industry experience
- Hands-on experience with Oligo synthesis (mid and large scale preferred).
- Experience with MerMade 12 and 192 synthesizers preferred.
- Experience in preparing buffers for purification and maintaining lab instruments such as AKTA purifiers, UF, HPLC and LC-MS.
- Previous experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Chemdraw
