Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer (On-site 5 days/week) β Irvine, CA
Job Summary
- Lead entrepreneurial innovation for next-generation catheter technologies for electrophysiology and cardiac care; drive concepts to proof-of-concept and first human.
What Youβll Own
- Lead end-to-end innovation: incubate high-potential concepts to proof-of-concept/first human.
- Execute technical programs across materials, miniaturization, navigation, sensing, and catheter architectures.
- Build/lead rapid prototyping and scaling in an incubator environment.
- Shape long-term innovation strategy and influence the global product pipeline.
- Partner with clinical and commercial teams for patient impact.
Job Responsibilities
- Set innovation roadmap; identify trends/technology and market opportunities.
- Lead novel catheter design ideation through prototype development (aligned to clinical needs/regulatory pathways).
- Architect and validate prototypes for pre-clinical testing and first-in-human trials; ensure safety/regulatory and manufacturability.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration; mentor engineers/technicians; transfer knowledge to full development/production.
- Lead technical documentation/design controls; support regulatory submissions and clinical trial technical expertise.
Qualifications
Required:
- BS in Mechanical/Biomedical/Electrical Engineering (related). MS/PhD preferred.
- 10+ years medical device R&D; proven leadership from concept to prototype and initial clinical use.
- Expertise in design/miniaturization/advanced manufacturing; SolidWorks/AutoCAD; validation/process excellence; catheter experience a plus.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, mentoring, and communication; travel up to 25%.
Preferred:
- Electromagnetically navigated device experience; validation/process/regulatory compliance; problem-solving; independent in fast-paced environments; manufacturing tech knowledge; DTV/DTQ; business/financial acumen.
