Role Summary

The Senior Operations Supervisor leads day-to-day plasma donor center operations, supervising staff on the donor floor and ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. As a senior frontline leader, this role oversees daily activities, provides shift leadership, and supports the Center Manager in driving performance, donor satisfaction, and continuous improvement. Location: Portland, OR.

Responsibilities

  • Act as acting leader in the absence of the Center Manager; perform tasks across the plasma center, including donor flow and production tasks.
  • Oversee donor operations and supervise staff during assigned shifts, providing shift leadership, staffing coordination, task assignments, break schedules, and coaching.
  • Create employee schedules to accommodate donor cycles.
  • Determine the adequacy of inventory and supplies; compile and submit orders to vendors to meet needs.
  • Keep the Center Manager informed of irregularities and provide action plans to correct deficiencies.
  • Support and execute daily operational plans to achieve center targets related to donor throughput, quality, and productivity.
  • Partner with the Center Manager and Quality team to identify and resolve deviations or operational concerns in real time.
  • Monitor donor flow and address delays or service issues to ensure an exceptional donor experience.
  • Oversee donor floor operations and supervise staff during assigned shifts.
  • Learns and maintains familiarity with state and federal regulations, FDA SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, cGMP, and internal procedures.
  • Supervise donor selection, plasma collection, and manufacturing records to maintain production standards in accordance with regulations.
  • Attend required training sessions and meetings; ensure accurate documentation of necessary records.
  • Ensure facility is neat and clean and equipment is in good working order; submit timely reports as required.
  • Assist in the control of center donor funds as determined by the Center Manager.
  • Participate in onboarding, training, and cross-training of staff to support center agility and performance.
  • Maintain active communication with other service areas to ensure documentation and quality.
  • Lead by example in promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability; report unsafe situations or conditions.
  • May be trained to repair plasma center equipment.
  • Assist the Center Manager in any task necessary in pursuit of company objectives.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires 6 years of related experience with phlebotomy, donor processing, and plasma processing duties, with demonstrated proficiency to handle difficult situations.
  • Equivalency: directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.

Skills

  • Exceptional customer service skills. Proficient in speaking and writing English. Where applicable, bi-lingual skills.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and follow SOPs and protocols.
  • Ability to work flexible scheduling and to perform in a regulated, high-volume medical environment where donor and staff safety and plasma quality are paramount.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified as Phlebotomist, Donor Center Technician, Plasma Processor, and Designated Trainer.
  • CPR Certification.

Additional Requirements

  • Occupational Demands: Work is performed in a plasma center with exposure to biological fluids and potential exposure to infectious organisms. PPE is required such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves, and cold gear.
  • Physical demands: Standing 4–6 hours per day, sitting 1-2 hours per day; bending and twisting of neck 1-2 hours per day; frequent hand movement; light lifting 15 lbs with a maximum of 50 lbs; hearing and vision requirements; ability to communicate effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
