Role Summary

Senior Medical Science Liaison - Vaccines (Federal Account - VHA, DHA). Remote/Field role; must live near a major airport.

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) is an experienced MSL who builds and maintains external stakeholder relationships, delivering on projects and providing scientific expertise to engage with healthcare professionals, institutions, and payers in a non-promotional manner. Sr. MSLs partner with stakeholders to implement the Medical strategy and coach/mentor other MSLs.

Responsibilities

  • Federal Account Responsibility: VHA, DHA – Develop long-term relationships with key federal customers at the Veterans Health Administration and Defense Health Agency; collaborate with the Medical Regional Strategic Account Director and Field Medical Head to lead Field Medical strategy for Federal Accounts; work with cross-functional partners to develop long-term strategy within assigned accounts/facilities.
  • External Stakeholder Engagement (60%) – Build enduring peer-to-peer relationships with healthcare professionals and institutions across federal systems; communicate science and collaborate to shape patient care; understand KOL perspectives; identify areas of mutual collaboration and contribute to strategic field Medical engagement plans; communicate benefits, risks, and appropriate use of the Vaccine portfolio; generate and share actionable insights and propose solutions; lead data analysis, collation, and evaluation; support the team with data analysis and critical insight escalation; assist in developing federal account medical content for external engagements including conferences; operate independently to navigate federal environments at national, regional, and local levels.
  • Internal Communication/Collaboration (15%) – Work with office and field Medical teams to shape CMP; lead projects, ensure timely results, and maintain internal stakeholder networks; provide scientific support for material development and for internal functions (commercial, market access, regulatory/PV, R&D) as applicable.
  • People Leadership (10%) – Coach and mentor MSLs, support onboarding and training, and lead complex Medical projects within time/resource constraints.
  • Data Generation (10%) – Identify data sources and partnerships for clinical studies (real-world evidence, IIS); support data generation and opportunities for data collection; engage with investigators to support company-sponsored trials and investigator-sponsored studies; support real-world evidence development.
  • Internal Training and Education (5%) – Complete MSL onboarding/certification and SOP/compliance trainings; apply Scientific Engagement Model and Insights process; maintain therapy area knowledge and soft skills; create development plans.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications – Advanced degree in medical, scientific, or pharmacy field (MD, PhD, PharmD); 5+ years healthcare experience in federal institutions (e.g., MTFs) with understanding of federal healthcare systems/regulations or 3+ years’ customer-facing Medical experience; strong communication/presentation skills; ability to communicate via digital channels; proven project management and mentoring experience in federal institutions.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Veteran or retired military with DOD-CAC; established relationships with federal immunization leaders; understanding of clinical development and clinical research with ability to evaluate protocols, reports, and publications.
