Primary Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, and develop a high-performing team of MSLs (senior and early-career talent)
- Operate within a player/coach model: provide oversight, coaching, and field engagement alongside MSLs
- Set expectations for scientific exchange quality, insight generation, and stakeholder engagement
- Conduct regular field travel and joint visits to observe, coach, and elevate performance
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous development, and scientific excellence
- Translate medical strategy into an executable field plan aligned with pre-launch and launch priorities
- Oversee territory planning, KOL identification, and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Ensure consistent, high-quality scientific exchange (disease education and product data communication)
- Support clinical and account readiness (site preparedness, patient identification, integration into practice)
- Monitor field activity and adapt strategy based on insights and market dynamics
- Lead territory alignment and resource deployment for optimal coverage
- Support evolution of field medical strategy across the product lifecycle (pre-launch to post-launch adoption)
- Maintain relationships with KOLs, investigators, and thought leaders
- Lead high-impact scientific engagements (advisory boards, congress interactions, complex clinical discussions)
- Serve as a scientific leader to ensure credibility and consistency externally
- Support identification/development of emerging influencers and strategic partnerships
- Oversee collection, synthesis, and communication of field insights to inform strategy
- Partner with Clinical Development, Commercial, and Market Access to align execution
- Translate field insights into actionable recommendations for launch strategy and evidence generation
- Contribute to medical materials, training, and strategic initiatives
- Represent external medical community insights to guide cross-functional decision-making
Operational Excellence
- Ensure field activities comply with regulatory requirements, company policies, and SOPs
- Support training, onboarding, and field effectiveness initiatives
- Establish and track KPIs for field medical impact, MSL effectiveness, and engagement quality
- Support planning/execution of congresses, advisory boards, and key medical activities
- Contribute to field medical planning (budget, resource allocation, operational prioritization)
- Develop and implement onboarding and ongoing training programs
Qualifications
- Advanced clinical or scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, NP, PA, or RN)
- Experience in medical affairs, clinical research, clinical care, or field-based roles in biotech/pharma
- Ability to interpret, communicate, and translate complex scientific/clinical data for diverse stakeholders
- Ownership mindset; able to operate independently and drive impact in a fast-paced pre-launch/launch environment
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with healthcare professionals (including investigators and KOLs)
- Experience gathering/synthesizing/translating field insights into actionable cross-functional recommendations
- Strong organizational skills; manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and follow-through
- Willingness/ability to travel extensively (~60–80%)
- Experience leading/coaching/developing field-based teams with accountability
- Ability to translate medical strategy into field execution and operational plans
- Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders in a matrixed environment
Preferred
- Experience in neurology, CNS disorders, or movement disorders
- Experience within the market access/payor landscape
