Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer – PLC

What You Will Do
- Lead technical projects and support PLC-based processes and utility skid equipment automation needs.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Automation Engineering team supporting 24/7 manufacturing and facility operations.
- Partner with the capital project team to design, build, commission, and qualify new equipment and systems for drug substance production.

Responsibilities
- Site design, construction, start-up, and operational readiness: support capital projects (safety/on-time start-up); develop process control automation solutions for PLC-based systems; ensure proper network connectivity and system-to-system communication; support commissioning/qualification (IV/ACO); support operational readiness, document reviews, deviation investigation, and change controls; develop/maintain specifications and SOPs/operating standards across orgs; mentor to advance site technical automation capabilities.
- Site operations: act as system owner for standalone PLC-based systems; manage 24/7 on-site/on-call operational support; troubleshoot and support plant/manufacturing operations; preventive/corrective maintenance; system administration; spare parts management; lead/support functional area and capital projects; root cause analysis and incident investigations; support NPI/new technology introductions via automation assessments and configuration changes; prepare/review SOPs and cGMP documents; travel up to 10%.

Basic Qualifications
- High School/GED + 10 years Engineering OR Associate’s + 8 OR Bachelor’s + 4 OR Master’s + 2 OR Doctorate.

Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science/Chemical/Biotech Engineering.
- Experience integrating OEM automation software and field instrumentation (e.g., Rockwell); PLC and field device/instrumentation programming/design/installation/lifecycle.
- Process control engineering/troubleshooting in GMP biopharmaceutical production; knowledge of standards (21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, S95, GAMP, GDP, GMP).
- Capital project lifecycle management (conceptual design through validation).
- Self-directed team player; leadership, technical writing, and communication/presentation skills.
