Role Summary
Senior Engineer: Mathematical Modeling and Simulation is a technical role in Amgen’s Combination Product Operations Digital and Data Strategies group. You will develop and apply physics-based and empirical models (including finite element models) of drug delivery devices to improve understanding, robustness, monitoring, and decision-making across the product lifecycle. You will own in-silico modeling projects, collaborate across multi-functional teams, and mentor other simulation experts.
Responsibilities
- Implement explicit and implicit FEM structural models with appropriate simplifications to efficiently represent the physical system.
- Apply engineering principles (kinematic, structural, tolerance analysis) with material characterization and testing to create in-silico models capturing device behavior during use, assembly, and transport.
- Continuously improve in-silico models, manage model lifecycle, and enhance methods to ensure efficiency and trustworthiness.
- Explore new opportunities in in-silico and data-driven computational models; model real-world scenarios with appropriate detail to inform decision-making in reduced time.
- Simulate complaints and real-world issues within the lifecycle of combination products; develop models that support root cause analysis.
- Provide leadership and deliver work in a fast-paced, multi-project, cross-functional environment; deliver predictions and insights on time to solve production and customer problems.
- Own model backlog, communicate modelling scope and limitations to stakeholders, and mentor other simulation experts in using simulation technologies.
