Role Summary
Senior EHS Engineer βΓΓ¬ Service responsible for leading the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Compliance Monitoring Programs to build a proactive Safety culture. Supports all aspects of the EHS Management System at Santa Clara, CA and other J&J locations in California. Influences leadership teams and promotes cross-site collaboration across site functions.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a high level of EHS performance for the site.
- Provide technical expertise for all EHS programs: environment, ergonomics, contractor safety, machine safety, biosafety, industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and emergency preparedness.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as J&J EHS Standards including Management of Change.
- Partner with local management to develop and implement a site CAPA process to address EHS program deficiencies and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Share global best practices and contribute to a best-in-class EHS program globally.
- Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments; provide coaching to site leaders on EHS programs/processes via dashboards and reports.
- Review, update, and develop EHS programs (IIPP, HMBP, HAZCOM, EAP, SOPs, LOTO/HECP, Confined Space, Fire Prevention, Biosafety, Lab Safety, Hot Works, Radiation/Laser Safety, Warehouse Safety, Chemical Inventory).
- Perform risk assessments, machine safety risk assessments, and job safety analyses for automated and manual functions.
- Report violations or potential violations to enforcement agencies and J&J corporate offices as required.
- Conduct routine EHS assessments using Program Reviews, Assurance Audits, and Self Assessments to identify deficiencies and risks.
- Lead incident investigations for all injuries, including First Aid and Good Saves.
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum Bachelor's or equivalent university degree; advanced degree or focused degree in EHS, Engineering, Science or related field preferred
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with strong environmental expertise
- EHS experience with emphasis on Chemical Management, Biosafety, Radiation Safety and Manufacturing experience
- Experience identifying, evaluating, and controlling EHS risks
- Ability to collaborate with local EHS professionals and support multi-site EHS resources
- Proficient in MS SharePoint and MS Office
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory issues and recommend actions
- Ability and willingness to travel to other locations
Preferred
- Manufacturing/R&D experience in a highly regulated environment
- Consulting experience
- Certifications in CIH, CHMM, CSP, and/or ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor
- Technical experience in air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, and/or chemical handling
- Experience with ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 EHS Management Systems and Certification
- Project management skills
