General Summary:
- Lead development and execution of Vertexโ€™s US Public Policy strategy focused on access to innovative medicines, primarily Medicare and Medicaid.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert, strategic architect, and external-facing leader to advance favorable public policies aligned with enterprise and reimbursement strategies amid legislative, regulatory, and litigation changes.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify barriers affecting brands/portfolios at federal and state levels; engage CMS and other stakeholders to advance Vertex priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute public policy and reimbursement strategies to support business objectives and optimize/mitigate/enhance policy changes related to access.
- Serve as primary point of contact with CMS; advocate through rulemaking and ad hoc opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, trade associations, and industry peers.
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret federal healthcare policies/regulations/legislation; provide strategic insights to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Market Access, Legal, Commercial) to align policy strategy with business priorities.
- Represent Vertex in external forums to advocate for innovation and patient access.
- Lead development of policy positions, white papers, and other materials.
- Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership on emerging policy trends.
- Manage certain policy consultants.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelorโ€™s degree in public policy, health policy, political science, or related field.
- 12-15+ years in public policy/government affairs focused on healthcare policy and reimbursement.
- Deep knowledge of US healthcare (Medicare/Medicaid) and biopharma reimbursement/access and regulatory/legislative processes.
- Proven engagement experience with CMS and policy stakeholders.
- Strong strategic/analytical skills and ability to translate complex policy into business strategy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree (JD, MPH, MPP, MBA).
- Biotech/pharma industry experience.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of the broader US healthcare system (commercial and government payers).
