Role Summary
Senior Director, Supply Chain Data & Technology. Define, lead and execute the vision for how Vertex will revolutionize the global supply chain through AI, data science and technology solutions. Drive AI-driven approaches to optimize supply chain operations, predictive analytics, and intelligent automation across clinical and commercial supply, powering end-to-end Supply Chain experiences worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Vision and Strategy
- Develops, articulates, and executes a clear vision for delivering AI-powered technology solutions for Supply Chain worldwide, aligned with Vertex’s strategic goals.
- Cultivates a roadmap of opportunities to transform supply chain activities through AI technologies, including generative and agentic AI, machine learning, and data-driven automation.
- Think strategically about planning, logistics, trade, business, product, and technical challenges simultaneously.
- Collaborates with Supply Chain leadership to ensure technology strategies accelerate portfolio and commercial goals and enable operational excellence.
- Operational Execution
- Drives transformative strategies that foster innovation, elevate performance, and drive growth.
- Identifies opportunities for innovation in AI, data products, data science, integrations, software, hardware, and protocols, evaluating applicability and risks.
- Ensures technology solutions are strategic, flexible, scalable, and reusable, aligned with architectural principles, standards, and governance.
- Maximizes fiscal, resource, and operational effectiveness; maintains an efficient technology operation supporting Drug research and production while maximizing ROI.
- Partners with suppliers to ensure delivery aligned with high compliance, quality, and security expectations.
- Leadership
- Leads and develops a high-performing, diverse team, fostering innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
- Cultivates inclusion, diversity, and equity where everyone can do their best work.
- Aligns the Supply Chain technology team with enterprise priorities, ensuring data strategies drive outcomes and regulatory compliance.
- Represents the Supply Chain technology organization in internal and external forums to advocate for innovation leadership.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, computer science or related field
- Required: 10+ years in life sciences technology or related fields, with 5+ years in a leadership role solving computationally and data-intensive problems in Supply Chain
Knowledge And Skills
- Extensive knowledge of global Supply Chain environments and user needs
- Extensive technical knowledge across a broad range of complex Supply Chain technology
- Experience applying AI and machine learning to data-intensive supply chain problems
- Experience with distributed, cloud, and high-performance computing
- Track record of developing and implementing technology strategy in complex pharmaceutical Supply Chain
- Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills; able to present to technical and non-technical audiences
- Commitment to compliance and integrity in systems, with understanding of biotech regulatory environment
- Exceptional problem-solving and strategic thinking aimed at innovation and operational excellence
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, computer science or related field
Additional Requirements
- Experience enabling AI/ML through data engineering strategies is desirable
- Advanced certifications in product, agile, software engineering, cloud technologies, or leadership
