Role Summary

The Sr. Director, Healthcare Improvement Lead acts as the strategic partner to Lilly Business Units to develop and deliver effective, impactful, cost-effective Healthcare Improvement (HCI) initiatives globally. Responsibilities include strategic planning and coordination for centralized execution of US initiatives and multi-country global initiatives, and participation in the HCI Hub/Implementation Science Center of Excellence to provide guidance on methodology, design, delivery, measurement and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the BU to develop brand strategic priorities and coordinate central medical affairs capabilities to shape the HCI strategy within the integrated plan
  • Identify root causes of Clinical Care Gaps (CCG) related to system-level barriers and drive data-driven, patient-focused, measurable HCI solutions
  • Collaborate with the Innovation Readiness team to identify HCI opportunities early and throughout the lifecycle
  • Determine when HCIs are the most appropriate solution based on CCG root causes
  • Design scalable and sustainable HCI initiatives with robust plans to disseminate findings externally
  • Shape communications on progress toward goals across organizational levels and forums
  • Identify environmental trends and leverage HCIs accordingly
  • Ensure HCI measurements are integrated into the ecosystem with comprehensive assessments including system and patient outcomes
  • Promote sharing and implementation of best practices through regular exchanges with colleagues
  • Manage budgets precisely and understand internal/external funding regulations

Organizational And External Influence

  • Foster cross-functional partnerships to meet healthcare system needs through HCIs
  • Develop innovative planning and execution approaches for HCIs, including QI Collaboratives
  • Engage with professional societies and external organizations to inform Lilly’s HCI strategies
  • Represent Lilly professionally with health systems and government entities regarding opportunities and execution of HCIs
  • Communicate with cross-functional leadership to raise awareness of HCIs and alignment with Accelerate Reach & Scale
  • Maximize budget with scalable approaches
  • Provide HCI coaching and training for affiliates and enterprise-wide upskilling
  • Participate in forums with HCI governance bodies and external offerings to build relationships

Operational Excellence / HCI Hub

  • Active member of the HCI Hub
  • Support compliance framework maintenance in collaboration with Ethics & Compliance; ensure global HCI quality and compliance
  • Contribute to HCI guidance creation including playbooks, processes, communication, engagement, and measurement/reporting
  • Provide central support for local OUS HCIs while supporting local execution
  • Support HCI technology and ecosystem development

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience working with external stakeholders/customers
  • 5+ years in roles with direct work or partnerships with external healthcare systems, research institutes, medical societies, NGOs, or across the pharmaceutical industry
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Education

  • Advanced degree preferred – including healthcare professions, MBA
  • Certifications/trainings in healthcare quality/healthcare improvement (e.g., CPHQ) or Implementation Science

Additional Requirements

  • Travel required, approximately 20% including some weekends and international travel
