Position Summary
- Lead end-to-end Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence (PATT) for Lilly US; own global time management and absence and influence global payroll strategy using Workday.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Global Mobility, and HR leadership to transform, streamline, and automate PATT.
- Implement an AI-forward payroll capability, drive Workday PATT product excellence, govern third-party vendors, and ensure SOX compliance across payroll cycles.
Key Responsibilities
Global Payroll Operations
- Own accurate, compliant, on-time US payroll operations.
- Oversee equity-related payroll events (KPMG mobile tax processor, award processing, limited-scope payments).
- Lead readiness/execution for new-country and acquired-company launches; manage entity/regulatory setup, vendor selection, and global framework integration.
- Escalation point for complex cross-border, multi-jurisdictional, executive-level payroll matters.
- Improve payroll governance/controls and audit readiness, including SOX-compliant payroll accounting.
HR Technology & AI Transformation
- Own Workday Payroll/Time Tracking/Absence roadmap (adoption, configuration governance, release planning, enhancements).
- Streamline operations using HR tech, agentic AI, and digital employee experience.
- Simplify PATT tech portfolio (reduce vendor complexity, retire legacy tools).
- Optimize integrations between Workday and downstream payroll, finance, benefits, equity administration, and reporting.
Vendor & Third-Party Governance
- Build vendor relationships; set SLAs, review performance, ensure quality.
- Advise on outsourced payroll agreements for cost/service excellence.
- Partner with Procurement/Legal on renewals, escalations, and vendor risk management.
Compliance, Risk & Financial Integrity
- Ensure US employment tax, labor law, and data privacy compliance.
- Support year-end close/external reporting (MD&A readiness, 401(k) audit support, disclosures).
- Oversee payroll for stock compensation with multi-jurisdictional tax requirements.
- Maintain SOX internal controls; coordinate SOX testing with Internal Audit and external auditors.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop US PATT team; foster ownership, continuous improvement, psychological safety.
- Model HRTO leadership philosophy.
Stakeholder Partnership & Executive Engagement
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Compensation, Benefits, Global Mobility, and HR Business Partners.
- Represent PATT in M&A, implementations, and compensation policy changes.
- Present executive reporting on operations, compliance posture, risk indicators, and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree (Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, HR, or related); MBA/MSHR preferred.
- 10+ years progressive global payroll operations experience; ability to transform/scale.
- Demonstrated Workday Payroll expertise; strong Time Tracking and Absence knowledge; Workday certification preferred.
- SOX compliance fluency, GAAP payroll accounting, and multi-jurisdictional employment tax/labor law.
- Experience managing large payroll vendor relationships.
- Track record leading payroll transformation (implementations, automation, AI-enabled improvements).
- Strong stakeholder engagement across Finance, Legal, HR, and executives.
- Fortune 500-equivalent global public company experience (preferably regulated industries).
Preferred Qualifications
- CPP designation.
- Equity/stock-based compensation payroll across multiple tax jurisdictions.
- Experience with Workday Orchestrate, RPA tools, or AI-driven payroll automation.
- Familiarity with KPMG, EQ (Equatex), ADP Workforce Now, Experian.
- Experience leading payroll through M&A/entity expansions/organizational transformation.
