Patient Advocacy
Position Overview
- Develop and execute an integrated communications and advocacy strategy for Gilead Patient Solutions (GPS) that advances company priorities, supports sustainable access to innovation for patients, and strengthens Gilead’s reputation across countries.
- Serve as trusted deputy and strategic thought partner to the Executive Director, Intercontinental Public Affairs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Public Affairs Leadership
- Partner with GPS leadership to align communications, advocacy, NGO engagement, and stakeholder outreach.
- Identify emerging themes across markets/functions/stakeholders and translate insights into coordinated strategies.
- Provide recommendations and practical communications guidance to senior leadership.
- Align with Public Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Government Affairs, Value & Access, Corporate Communications, Commercial, Medical and other functions.
- Use an enterprise lens to ensure strategies are locally relevant and culturally informed.
External/NGO/Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead external communications strategy; create compliant messaging about commitments, partnerships, access initiatives, and public health impact.
- Build proactive storytelling and prepare senior leaders for external engagements.
- Partner on engagement strategies with global NGOs, patient organizations, and advocacy groups; co-create initiatives where appropriate and compliant.
Issues/Crisis/Reputation & Internal Alignment
- Proactively identify and manage issues; establish governance/protocols and response frameworks.
- Embed reputation management into program design; monitor risk and sentiment.
- Draft/review external statements and reactive communications.
- Partner with internal communications to integrate GPS priorities into enterprise narratives and enable consistent messaging.
Measurement/Insights/Governance
- Define objectives, KPIs, and leading indicators; build dashboards for continuous improvement.
- Lead cross-functional governance; manage budgets and agency/external partner performance.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree + 14+ years’ experience, or Master’s degree + 12+ years’ relevant experience, or PhD + 12+ years’ relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-house public affairs/corporate/external affairs experience in global pharma/biotech/highly regulated healthcare.
- Reputation/communications/stakeholder engagement/issues management in complex matrixed environments.
- Strong written/verbal executive communications; experience with compliance considerations.
- Experience in low- and lower-middle-income countries and/or complex access/public health environments.
- NGO/patient organization/multilateral stakeholder partnership and advocacy experience.
- Ability to anticipate challenges, navigate ambiguity, and advise senior leaders; travel ~30–40%.

Compensation/Benefits
- Salary range: $243,100.00–$314,600.00; may include discretionary bonus, long-term incentives, paid time off, and company-sponsored medical/dental/vision/life insurance.
