Senior Director, Business Development Forecasting & Analytics
The Role
- Lead end-to-end commercial assessment for licensing, acquisition, and partnership opportunities across new/adjacent markets
- Build forecasting infrastructure to improve BD analytics quality
White Space Assessment & Market Intelligence
- Lead commercial assessments from early landscape scoping through full deal-stage forecasting with a defensible POV
- Develop expertise in unfamiliar therapeutic areas (epidemiology, treatment algorithms, competitive dynamics, payer landscapes, emerging clinical data)
- Proactively size white space opportunities; track signals across pipelines, regulatory trends, and payer policy
Market Research Leadership
- Design and lead primary research programs (qualitative/quantitative) with physicians, payers, patients, and channel partners
- Commission and critically evaluate third-party research; translate into actionable insight
- Build institutional knowledge base in new markets (findings, assumptions, forecast rationale)
Forecasting Model Development
- Build flexible, reusable forecasting models with modular architecture and documented assumptions
- Use methods for data-scarce environments (analogue models, epidemiology-driven patient flow, expert elicitation, scenario trees)
- Model commercial picture (uptake, competitive erosion, pricing/access, channel dynamics, lifecycle scenarios, risk-adjusted probability of success)
Go-to-Market & Channel Strategy
- Evaluate innovative commercial approaches (outcomes-based contracting, risk-sharing, launch sequencing)
- Analyze channel architecture trade-offs (specialty pharmacy, buy-and-bill, direct-to-patient, GPO/IDN)
BD Partnership & Executive Influence
- Serve as commercial analytics partner to BD leadership through screening, due diligence, term sheets, and integration planning
- Present defendable forecasts to senior executives; represent Lilly’s commercial perspective externally during diligence
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a scientific field
- 10+ years in pharmaceutical/biotech commercial strategy, BD analytics, market research, or strategic forecasting
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Exposure beyond a single therapeutic area
- Track record building commercial conviction in new/ambiguous markets
- Experience leading primary market research (study design, vendor management, synthesis)
- Strong financial modeling skills (bottoms-up/epidemiology, DCF/rNPV, sensitivity/scenario)
- Deep understanding of pharma markets and payer/prescriber dynamics
- Familiarity with value-based/outcomes-based/digital-first go-to-market and channel architecture
- Experience with strategy consulting or life sciences investment banking; RWE/HEOR; FDA/EMA pathway knowledge; forecasting infrastructure across BD
