Role Summary
Bicara Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Director of Accounting to join our team. This role partners with the CFO and VP of Finance/Controller as Assistant Controller on strategic initiatives and is critical to the Company’s financial and operational success. The position requires strong leadership, versatility across accounting processes, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role is based in our Boston office with a hybrid schedule (three in-office days per week).
Responsibilities
- Partner with the CFO and VP of Finance on strategic initiatives, including SOX 404b implementation, commercial launch readiness, Audit Committee, and implementation of scalable systems to support commercial operations
- Lead the preparation and review of SEC filings (Form 10K) and quarterly (Form 10Q) financial statements and other SEC filings
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures
- Lead the preparation and review of technical accounting memos for complex accounting transactions
- Collaborate with other G&A teams to ensure relevant information is shared timely, including legal, IR and others as needed
- Build cross-company relationships with key business partners involved in significant accounting activities to ensure processes are effective and controls are sufficient
- Review corporate tax returns
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals and other month end, quarter end and year end close process
- Support the company’s financial objectives by providing financial analyses and recommendations
- Develop and design supporting schedules addressing estimates for certain accounting areas such as manufacturing and research and development
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SEC reporting, and internal control requirements
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve the close and reporting process including evaluating systems enhancements
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
- Lead special projects and ad hoc reporting as necessary
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Required: CPA certification
- Preferred: Active CPA license
- Required: 10+ years of related accounting experience with 3+ years in a biotech/pharma company
- Preferred: Experience working in a public company
- Preferred: Experience with accounting at a commercial-stage company
- Preferred: Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SOX principles
- Preferred: Detail oriented self-starter with ability to think strategically and effectively prioritize while managing various projects simultaneously
- Preferred: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders and executive leadership
- Preferred: Ability to be flexible and continuously drive processes, deliverables, and timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Preferred: Experience working with NetSuite, Prendio, Workiva and Bill.com
