Role Summary

Senior Cystic Fibrosis Medical Science Liaison (Atlanta, FL, AL, MS, AR). The MSL serves as a scientific liaison to the medical and academic community, establishing and maintaining relationships with HCPs to disseminate clinical and scientific information about Vertex’s compounds in a timely, ethical, and stakeholder-focused manner. The role contributes to shaping the medical plan, engages external stakeholders to address scientific educational and research needs, and provides the latest emerging data in response to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop trusting relationships with predefined medical and scientific Thought Leaders and other HCPs through scientific exchange.
  • Apply the principles of the Scientific Engagement Model (SEM) to enhance interaction quality as assessed by field coaching.
  • Incorporate the medical plan into interactions and capture feedback in the CRM system to inform internal stakeholders and shape medical strategy.
  • Utilize CRM and analytics to capture interaction details timely and manage workload, guided by management.
  • Exchange scientific information effectively and compliantly with external stakeholders, communicating disease state and product information at a proficient level as assessed by management coaching and field observations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local and regional payers and understand their relationship to patient care in the region.
  • Assist clinical development/clinical operations by understanding IB content and presenting IB material at SIV meetings, nominating trial sites as requested, and providing end-of-study data reviews with investigators.
  • Represent Vertex at medical congresses with guidance, providing scientific session/abstract coverage, booth staffing coverage, routine TL interactions, and contributing to daily and end-of-congress summaries.
  • Perform administrative tasks (CRM entry, mileage reporting, expense reporting, calendar entries, trainings, etc.) in a timely manner and in compliance with Vertex policies.

Qualifications

  • Required: Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (Masters, NP, PA).
  • Preferred: Terminal degree in biomedical or life sciences (DO, MD, PharmD, PhD).
  • Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience as an MSL or in other medical affairs roles in the pharma/biotech industry.
  • Preferred: Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area.

Required Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to meet goals within allotted timeframes and deliver high-quality results.
  • Ability to initiate, plan, and complete projects in a dynamic field-based environment.
  • Ability to identify issues and create solutions.
  • Ability to critically appraise and comprehend medical and scientific literature.
  • Ability to present clinical/scientific information credibly in varied settings.
  • Strong knowledge of the assigned geographic territory and healthcare regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of disease management protocols, healthcare environment, and competitors to articulate medical and scientific value of Vertex products.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks governing the pharmaceutical industry and ability to conduct compliant interactions.
  • Working knowledge of payers and medical information needs to support access and appropriate use of Vertex medicines.
  • Working knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research.
  • Fluent in English and local language (oral and written).

Education

  • Advanced degree in biomedical or life sciences required; terminal degree preferred.
