Responsibilities:
- Work with Amgen scientists to identify patentable subject matter
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide
- Conduct prior art searches
- Analyze patents and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions
- Conduct due diligence in support of licensing activities
- Negotiate and draft research agreements
- Provide legal advice and counsel to R&D and business partners on IP matters
- Assist with litigation-related matters, challenging/defending patents in PTAB, opposition, and other forums
Basic Qualifications:
- J.D. or LL.M. from an accredited law school; admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction
- 4+ years of experience practicing intellectual property law
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience practicing patent or IP law
- Experience with U.S. and foreign IP law relating to biotechnology (law firm or biotech/pharmaceutical corporation)
- Masterβs or Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry
- Excellent analytical, legal drafting, and oral/written communication skills
- Strong management/leadership, client service focus; ability to work independently and in teams
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in U.S. and/or foreign adversarial proceedings (e.g., patent litigation, IPR, PGR, oppositions)
