Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary legal expert and strategic advisor on U.S. and global trade law (customs regulations, OFAC sanctions, export controlsβEAR/ITAR, and antiboycott requirements).
- Lead development and execution of global trade compliance policies, internal audits, and remediation programs.
- Advise on tariff classification, country-of-origin determinations, antidumping duties (AD/CVD), and forced labor due diligence.
- Drive duty optimization and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) strategies; manage engagement with agencies including CBP, BIS, and OFAC.
- Manage legal aspects of customs investigations, voluntary self-disclosures, and trade due diligence for M&A (mergers, acquisitions) and divestitures.
Qualifications (minimum):
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5β10+ years of international trade law experience, including CBP regulations, HTS classification, customs valuation, and sanctions compliance.
- Expertise drafting trade compliance policies/training and advising across international jurisdictions and supply chains.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in pharmaceutical/animal health/life sciences.
- Working knowledge of EU and other major export control/sanctions regimes.
- Familiarity with Global Trade Management systems (e.g., SAP GTS).
- Knowledge of FDA/USDA import requirements for veterinary pharmaceuticals and biologics.
- Experience handling trade aspects of large-scale M&A and post-closing integration.
