Role: Senior Counsel, Global Alliances Legal at AbbVie, focusing on strategic collaborations with China-based pharmaceutical and biotech partners. Objectives: support complex R&D alliances through legal counsel across the full lifecycle, including governance, amendments, dispute resolution, and partner engagement. Responsibilities: advise on U.S.-China legal frameworks (e.g., HGR regulations, BIOSECURE Act, outbound investment rules), interpret and negotiate strategic agreements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on alliance governance and deal structuring. Qualifications: J.D., admitted to U.S. bar, 5+ (preferably 9+) years in life sciences law, with experience in drafting licensing, collaboration, and R&D agreements, and advising on global pharma partnerships. Strong preference for familiarity with China-related regulatory frameworks and Mandarin proficiency. Experience at Am Law 100 firm or in-house at a pharma/life sciences company required. Scientific background or interest in biology, chemistry, drug development advantageous. Skills include legal analysis, cross-border negotiation, and strategic collaboration support. High-Value: focus on China-US pharmaceutical collaborations, R&D, regulatory compliance, and complex contract negotiations. Work setup requires in-office presence at least three days/week in North Chicago, IL, or Waltham, MA, or South San Francisco, CA.
