Responsibilities:
- Partner with Global Alliances, asset strategy, disease strategy, and R&D leadership to align legal strategy with portfolio objectives and advance collaborative decision-making across the product life cycle.
- Advise Aesthetics, Toxins and Eye Care teams on alliance, partnership, and collaboration matters across pharmaceutical and device life cycles.
- Interpret and analyze complex strategic agreements (licenses, collaborations, and other alliances) and provide clear legal advice to business and leadership on R&D and commercialization issues.
- Draft, review, and negotiate licenses, collaboration, co-development, co-promotion, and other complex R&D agreements.
- Work with Transactions Legal to evaluate, structure, and negotiate new Aesthetics, Toxins and Eye Care collaborations; support due diligence and integration planning.
- Advise clients and legal leadership to maximize pipeline potential.
- Serve as a go-to resource for senior management and stakeholders on innovative approaches in complex law, business, and technology areas.
To enable success, this role must be in the office at least 3 days per week at Abbott Park (North Chicago, IL) or AbbVie campuses (Irvine, CA or South San Francisco, CA).
Qualifications:
- J.D. required; must meet state licensing requirements.
- Large firm (Am Law 100) or in-house big Pharma/Life Sciences experience (preferably pharmaceutical).
- 5+ years in life science/pharma transactions (global collaborations), advising on complex global collaborations, and/or advising on R&D for pharmaceuticals and/or aesthetics products.
- Scientific background preferred (or strong interest in biology/chemistry basics).
- Basic understanding of scientific, development, regulatory, and commercial concepts (early and late stage).
- Ability to work autonomously and take initiative; driven by business outcomes.
- Advanced legal-analysis and communication skills.
- Sound business judgment; ability to identify and address critical legal and business issues.
