Role Purpose
- Provide strategic legal leadership for AbbVie’s global AI regulatory, policy, and contracting framework to enable safe, compliant cross-jurisdiction AI scaling.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor, assess, and interpret global AI regulations (e.g., EU AI Act; China, Japan, Australia, Brazil) and advise on business impact.
- Lead development/maintenance of enterprise AI legal policies, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Partner with Privacy legal team on cross-border AI deployment (data transfer, localization, compliance).
- Develop and maintain AI contracting standards, including model clauses for data usage/training rights, liability/indemnification, and transparency/regulatory compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex AI-related agreements (vendors, data, strategic partnerships).
- Align enterprise AI policy positions with Government Affairs, Compliance, Privacy, and Ethics.
- Support executive/Board/Audit Committee briefings on AI regulatory developments and risks.
- Advise on high-risk or novel AI use cases; identify emerging legal/regulatory risks and define mitigation.
Qualifications
Required:
- JD (or equivalent) and active bar membership.
- 5+ years legal experience.
- Deep expertise in technology law, global regulatory frameworks, and data privacy.
- Experience advising on cross-border regulatory issues.
- Experience negotiating complex technology/AI agreements.
- Strong executive communication/advisory skills.
Preferred:
- 10+ years legal experience.
- Experience with AI/ML regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, GDPR).
- Experience in life sciences or other highly regulated industries.
- Collaboration with government affairs/regulatory bodies.
Skills & Competencies
- Strategic thinking/regulatory foresight; translate legal issues into business guidance.
- Stakeholder influence/executive presence; strong judgment/risk management.
- Exceptional written/verbal communication.
