Role Summary
The Senior Controls Engineer, Operational Technology provides advanced technical and automation support for complex distributed control systems, packaging and manufacturing automation systems in a regulated, validated environment. Responsibilities include power management, building lighting, and energy management support, supporting multiple cutting-edge projects as manufacturing and packaging operations expand.
Responsibilities
- Provide key complex support of distributed control systems, packaging and manufacturing automation systems to optimize costs, quality and service through conception, development and implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, material flow, plant layout or product design
- Perform advanced application troubleshooting, architecture review, system staging, and consulting services
- Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and field devices under strict change control
- Perform complex network troubleshooting, database troubleshooting, SQL programming and repair programming
- Perform preventative maintenance procedures on system and/or equipment
- Collaborate with the engineering team on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations
- Ensure PLC specifications, designs, programming standards and implementation and verify those standards are being met
- Ensure GAMP/cGxP procedures and testing implementation are adhered to
- Provide advanced system support for Operational Technology systems including TrackWise, SAP, Adept/MasterControl EDMS, and Electronic Batch Records
Qualifications
- Required: 9+ years of automation experience across multiple systems with a high school diploma; OR 7+ years with an associate degree; OR 5+ years with a bachelorโs degree
- Required: Experience as controls/automation SME for construction or other projects
- Required: Programming/design/development experience with Rockwell/Allen Bradley, ControlLogix, RSLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk Batch, Siemens S5 & S7 PLCs, RSView, FactoryTalk View, PanelView, Wonderware, or related
- Required: Schneider EcoStruxure, AVEVA Archestra, and JCI Metasys experience
- Required: Superior database maintenance/development experience
- Required: Computer hardware/software validation and change control experience
- Required: PLC programming and connectivity experience
- Required: Industrial networking experience
- Required: Experience working in small, fast-paced project teams
- Required: Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple demands, prioritize tasks, and manage resource procurement and utilization
- Required: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Required: Experience developing engineering documentation (URS/DDS/FDS/PIDS)
- Preferred: Associate or Bachelorโs Degree in Information Technology or Engineering
- Preferred: Certified Energy Manager
- Preferred: Certified Automation Professional (ISA)
- Preferred: Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Preferred: Experience in FDA-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Preferred: Experience working on construction projects
- Preferred: Historian configuration experience
- Preferred: HMI and SCADA configurations experience
- Preferred: SQL programming experience

100% onsite in either Durham, NC or Silver Spring, MD with up to 10% travel.
