Key Responsibilities:
- Provide senior-level automation engineering support across Process Sciences labs in Kendall Square and manufacturing sites in Norton and Alewife.
- Lead automation projects (expansions, upgrades, system modifications) as technical lead across lifecycle phases: design, delivery, startup, commissioning, validation, and operational support.
- Design, integrate, and commission automation systems; develop specifications, analyze results, and resolve complex operational/system challenges.
- Develop and maintain company automation capabilities (technical standards, guidelines, and procedures) aligned with industry best practices and compliant design principles.
- Review and critique process/automation designs for alignment with ASTM E2500 and other quality frameworks; promote safe, compliant, high-integrity operation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, process development, facilities, QA, and other stakeholders for requirements, recommendations, successful implementations, technology transfers, and equipment integrations.
- Lead engineering investigations and provide technical support for troubleshooting, optimization, and issue resolution (including deviations, change controls, and CAPAs) across Manufacturing, Utilities/Facilities, and Process Sciences.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for automation service providers/integrators/contractors and Instrument/Electrical technicians to ensure safe, compliant maintenance and effective project execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field; 6+ years designing, building, testing, and supporting PLC-based automation systems.
- Expertise with Rockwell Automation (PlantPAx, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE) across project execution, commissioning, and lifecycle management.
- Hands-on experience with GE Unicorn, Delta Controls enteliWEB, Intellution iFix, or Siemens Apogee/Desigo CC (preferred).
- Familiarity with virtualized infrastructure (Nutanix AHV, VMware) and virtual/physical integration in a compliant manufacturing environment.
- Strong GMP manufacturing operations background; technical lead experience and ability to support 24x7 environments.
- Knowledge of GMPs, GEP, ISA S88, GAMP, ASTM E2500, and ISPE guidance.
- Ability to translate user requirements into automation design solutions for technology transfer, process scale-up, and equipment integration.
- Ability to work across Massachusetts sites and participate in rotating 24x7 on-call support.

U.S. Pay Range:
- $129,000.00 - $174,600.00
