Senior Associate – Analytical Chemistry

Role Summary

Senior Associate – Analytical Chemistry is a role in the Discovery Analytical Chemistry group at Amgen, located in Thousand Oaks, CA. You will develop and apply chromatographic methods to analyze and purify small molecules, contributing to medicinal chemistry and discovery research while enhancing laboratory capabilities and process efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop and use chromatographic methods for the analysis and purification of small molecules.
• Utilize a broad range of chromatographic instruments and technologies, including HPLC, HPLC-MS, SFC-MS, mass-directed purification, and preparative SFC.
• Support medicinal chemistry and discovery research by performing analytical characterization and purification of small molecules.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on process efficiency, assay expansion, and laboratory capabilities.
• Collaborate with a team of scientists in a state-of-the-art, redesigned laboratory environment to develop technical expertise in pharmaceutical R&D.

Qualifications

• Basic Qualifications: Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field; or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field with 2 years of directly related experience; or Associate’s degree in Chemistry or related field with 4 years of directly related experience; or High school diploma / GED with 6 years of directly related experience.
• Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline; hands-on experience with chromatographic techniques including HPLC and LC/MS; exposure to analytical or preparative SFC is a plus; experience with small-molecule analysis and purification in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environment; strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills; effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team-based research setting.
