Role Summary

Onsite Cambridge, MA. The Oncology Data Science team works at the intersection of oncology drug discovery, computational biology, AI/ML, and data engineering to advance new therapeutics across drug modalities. We are seeking an Associate Director of Data Science to lead a multidisciplinary team dedicated to target discovery, using advanced analytics and close collaboration with colleagues across the organization. This role requires strong scientific leadership, deep understanding of data science and oncology, and a commitment to innovative approaches to bring new drug targets to the pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of data scientists, driving high-quality data science grounded in biology to identify new targets for oncology drug development.
  • Co-develop and execute a data science strategy to enable and enhance innovation in the new targets space.
  • Align with the Target Biology and Discovery (TBaD) team and Oncology Drug Discovery Data Science teams to represent the New Targets data science function, manage the portfolio of New Targets projects, and drive collaborative innovation.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of machine learning algorithms, AI models, and platforms to deliver predictive and prescriptive insights with the Oncology Data Science AI team and other technology-focused teams.
  • As a member of the Oncology Data Science Leadership team, contribute to overall direction and management, and represent the New Targets portfolio.
  • Collaborate with Oncology Data Science engineering teams to ensure adherence to data standards, governance, and strategy.
  • Play a leading role in matrix teams such as disease area teams or teams centered around technologies like genomics, proteomics, and spatial technologies.
  • Present and externalize work in conferences, abstracts and scientific journals.

Qualifications

  • Required: Ph.D. in data science, computational biology or related field with a strong oncology background and ability to set scientific strategy.
  • Required: 7+ years of experience in a data science role in oncology drug development or related academic functions.
  • Required: Excellent leadership and management skills with 3+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Required: Understanding of functional oncology targets (e.g., mutated oncogenes) and principles for identifying cell surface targets for modalities such as ADCs, CAR-T, and radioligand therapies.
  • Required: Broad experience with genomics, proteomics, and/or functional genomics data.
  • Required: Excellent communication skills to convey complex data insights to cross-functional teams.
  • Required: Proven contributions to the scientific community via papers or conference presentations.
  • Preferred: Specific experience with new target identification in oncology.
  • Preferred: Strong expertise in AI/machine learning and statistical modeling techniques.
  • Preferred: Ability to travel as needed (5% travel).

Education

  • Ph.D. in data science, computational biology or related field with oncology emphasis.

Additional Requirements

  • Location: Cambridge, MA; remote work not available. 5% travel as defined by the business.
