Senior AI Application Engineer

Role: Senior Application Engineer within BMS's AI Venture Studio, focusing on building secure, cloud-native AI applications and infrastructure in an AWS environment. Responsibilities: design and develop backend services, APIs, and agentic workflows using technologies like Python, FastAPI, TypeScript, and AWS services (S3, RDS, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, Fargate); implement retrieval, semantic layers, and agent runtimes to address pharma-specific R&D and commercialization challenges; establish DevOps pipelines, observability, and security standards; collaborate with cross-functional teams to mature AI MVPs, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability; lead technical design reviews and mentor team members. Requirements: bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; 5+ years in cloud or platform engineering; hands-on experience with AWS-native services, backend frameworks, containerization, CI/CD, and AI frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain; familiarity with knowledge management, data governance, and enterprise AI tool integrations. Preferred: experience with LLM and RAG applications, knowledge graphs, semantic data layers, and AI evaluation tools. The role is hands-on with frontier AI technologies, working in an agile, multi-disciplinary environment, emphasizing innovation in pharma R&D, manufacturing, and commercialization processes.
