Role Overview
Scientist II, CMC Pipeline Innovation (Technical Development) in Somerset, NJ.
Responsibilities
- Execute lentiviral vector (LVV) downstream process development: design, optimize, and scale purification using chromatography and other separation technologies (capture/polishing; affinity, ion exchange, size-exclusion, hydrophobic interaction, membrane chromatography) to improve recovery, purity, scalability, and manufacturability.
- Develop and run proof-of-concept/feasibility/characterization studies; recommend further development, implementation, or discontinuation.
- Design and perform lab studies to advance manufacturing, analytical, and characterization technologies to improve understanding, quality, efficiency, scalability, and robustness.
- Support integration of new technologies into development/manufacturing workflows (cross-functional coordination, success criteria, technical risk management, knowledge transfer).
- Draft/review protocols; execute studies; communicate results via reports/presentations and recommendations.
- Maintain innovation lab operations (equipment, materials, organization, facility/utility coordination).
- Plan, prioritize, and execute technical activities; independently manage day-to-day work and recommend solutions based on data.
Requirements
- Ph.D. (preferred) in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Virology, Immunology, or related; 0β3 years relevant experience; or MS/BS with equivalent experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with bioprocess unit operations: stirred-tank bioreactors, TFF, sterile filtration, chromatography.
- LVV process experience desirable.
- Familiarity with AI/ML/data-driven approaches (plus).
- Strong viral vector/gene delivery and analytical/molecular biology knowledge for cell/gene therapy development.
- Biophysical/analytical characterization exposure desirable (HPLC, UHPLC, LC-MS/MS, Raman).
- Advanced Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
- Biostatistics/DoE (JMP) and GraphPad Prism experience.
- English required; Mandarin plus.
Benefits (selected)
- Medical/dental/vision; 401(k) with match; 8 weeks paid parental leave after 3 months; paid time off (vacation/personal/sick/floating holidays) and 11 holidays.
- Performance bonus and/or equity (eligible roles).
Pay Range (base)
- $110,706β$145,303 USD.
