Responsibilities:
- Serve as senior scientific SME in cardiometabolic disease, obesity, and related co-morbidities (CNS disease mechanisms, human translational research, quality of weight loss).
- Define and execute scientifically rigorous innovation strategy for early obesity/cardiometabolic discovery (translational endpoints and decision frameworks).
- Lead strategy to assess quality of weight loss (lean mass preservation, body composition, metabolic health, functional outcomes, co-morbidity-relevant biology).
- Provide expert leadership to multidisciplinary teams; translate emerging biology/mechanisms/technology into actionable plans and portfolio decisions.
- Drive therapeutics discovery collaboration (small molecules, siRNA, novel modalities).
- Operate autonomously on complex problems; anticipate scientific/business challenges and recommend innovative solutions.
- Lead external innovation evaluations and due diligence of targets/platforms/technologies/partnerships; synthesize recommendations for senior leadership.
- Identify and govern academic collaborations/strategic partnerships (scope, milestones, decision points, data standards, deliverables).
- Build international networks; represent via presentations/publications/patents.
- Lead global cross-functional workstreams to deliver program milestones; mentor colleagues.

Qualifications:
- PhD (7+ years) OR MD/DO (3+ years) required.
- Diabetes drug discovery SME; creativity/curiosity and innovative mindset.
- Expert knowledge of scientific/translational drug-development challenges (T1D) with prior industry experience.
- Proven stakeholder coordination/buy-in; influence without authority.
- Strong communication (agendas, meeting leadership, presenting scientific results across sites).
- Fluency in spoken/written English.
- 5–10% overnight travel.
