Role Summary

This is a field-based and remote opportunity supporting a sales team in an assigned geography.

Area Business Leader (ABL) is responsible for directing a team of Territory Account Specialists to deliver tailored customer experiences and drive demand, collaborating with Healthcare Providers, Key Accounts, and Systems of Care to establish Novartis as a preferred partner. The role emphasizes high-performance and accountability in pursuing brand strategy and tactics.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, develop, retain, mentor, and lead a diverse team to achieve strategic sales objectives, establish accountability, supervise KPIs, and drive performance at all levels.
  • Model leadership by promoting a shared vision, clear expectations, accountability, and process optimization.
  • Mentor Territory Account Specialists to coordinate total account calls and deploy resources to meet customer needs.
  • Develop and implement a customer-centric business plan with cross-functional partners to optimize customer experience and product demand.
  • Serve on the regional leadership team to shape regional goals, execution, and culture.
  • Foster a customer-centric culture where teams act as engaged business owners, encourage problem-solving, collaboration, experimentation, and constructive risk-taking.
  • possess in-depth knowledge of clinical, access and reimbursement, territory management, and omni-channel marketing tools to mentor and develop team members during field contacts and coaching sessions.
  • Use analytics to guide decisions and identify risks and opportunities to optimize resource deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor‚Äôs degree from a 4-year college or university.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or similarly structured industries with large, geographically dispersed sales teams; open to candidates from related complex sales environments; internal candidates may qualify via ELDP or recent pharmaceutical/biotech sales management experience.
  • 2+ years‚Äô experience as a first-line sales manager with strategic thinking and enterprise mindset.
  • Demonstrated leadership in sophisticated selling environments with success indicators (awards, top rankings, performance ratings).
  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain diverse talent and build high-performing teams; track record of driving sales in matrixed, multi-regional environments.
  • Experience managing field organizations through change, innovation, or growth.
  • Residence within the territory or within 100 miles of the territory border; ability to travel 60‚Äì80% across a broad geography; valid driver‚Äôs license.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience and success leading sales teams promoting to large practices, hospitals, IDNs, and SoC customers with understanding of reimbursement for outpatient and inpatient settings.

Education

  • Bachelor‚Äôs degree required.
