Responsibilities:
- Provide routine and emergency veterinary medical care for pigs at the DPF barrier facility in Christiansburg, VA
- Manage all health aspects of pigs; diagnose and treat medical conditions
- Assist with surgeries
- Write animal medical records
- Operate medical equipment
- Euthanize and perform necropsies
- Participate in breeding program (semen collection, analysis/processing, artificial insemination)
- Collaborate on/author animal-related SOPs
- Support regulatory activities (IACUC, USDA, FDA, AAALAC) with direction from the Attending Veterinarian
- Train animal and veterinary technicians; participate in on-call after hours; other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
- DVM
- 5+ years veterinary field experience
- 3+ years large-animal care (preferred: porcine)
- 3+ years working with regulatory bodies and controlled substances
- 3+ years diagnostic testing/general surgery, health surveillance, and necropsies
- Virginia veterinary license; USDA Level II Accreditation; eligible for DEA license (or transferable)
- Evidence-based medicine for a swine herd; critical thinking/problem-solving
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to coach/train; author/edit SOPs
- No pig interaction outside the company

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient abdominal/general surgery
- Knowledge of US FDA CFR for xenotransplantation products
- Demonstrated GxP compliance

Location/Travel:
- Fully onsite in Christiansburg, VA; up to 20% travel
