Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage proactive/reactive state policy strategies to mitigate risks and identify opportunities.
- Monitor state policy/business environment for emerging issues impacting company operations/products.
- Educate internal stakeholders; create cross-functional working groups to keep advocacy aligned with business strategy.
- Advocate with state officials and legislative committees on legislative/public policy initiatives affecting the company and patients.
- Create regional strategic plans and political intelligence for proactive responses.
- Track state legislation/regulation; coordinate with policy team on impacts and company positions.
- Coordinate with Alliance Development on cross-functional projects with outside organizations.
- Educate government officials/committees on company public affairs positions.
- Build relationships with state policymakers and their staff; participate in cross-functional work teams.
- Grow the Political Action Committee (PAC) and support grassroots activities.
- Manage state government affairs contract lobbyists/consultants; ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure/ethical requirements.
- Maintain relationships with patient/healthcare advocacy groups and other entities influencing state policy.
- Provide input for senior leadership materials and plan/execute events for state/local officials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs degree + 7+ years progressive experience in state legislative/government affairs/lobbying consulting (Advanced degree preferred).
- Strong multi-state lobbying experience (plus).
- Advanced knowledge of state government affairs/public policy; policy analysis; government relations.
- Strong planning, relationship building, cross-functional leadership, advocacy/communications, analytical, and strategic skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Pharmaceutical/healthcare experience and diabetes/obesity knowledge (preferred); external stakeholder/alliance development experience (plus); health insurance experience (plus).
- Travel 20β30% overnight; valid driverβs license.
Compensation/benefits:
- Base pay range: $152,000β$267,000; eligible for company bonus; long-term incentive and/or vehicle depending on level.
