Role Summary

The Regional Field Leader, Associate Director oversees an assigned region within the US Pain Business Unit. They lead a team of 8–10 field-based reps, account managers, and territory managers, including Pain Territory Account Managers (PTAMs) and Pain Territory Business Managers (TBMs). The role focuses on driving hospital/health-system volume and access, broadening prescriber reach in hospital settings and surrounding communities. The Regional Field Leader reports to a Senior Director, Area Field Leader, must reside in the region near an airport, and travel routinely as needed. Ideal Location: Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage existing PTAMs and recruit for the newly created TBM roles. Manage, hire and retain a high-performing team that drives results while upholding Vertex values.
  • Establish clear business plans, metrics, and goals for the region and motivate the team to deliver results.
  • Support business goals while focusing on patients by using data analytics and field insights to provide strategic guidance to PTAMs and TBMs.
  • Guide the management of account and territory plans, supporting formulary, pathway, and protocol placements within institutions and driving awareness and pull-through of JOURNAXV in surrounding communities.
  • Understand interdependencies within institutional accounts and build informed, long-term account relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders, including the US Pain Marketing Team, to shape approaches that drive performance.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture and coach PTAMs to develop goals that improve patient outcomes.
  • Partner with other field team members and headquarters to analyze customer needs, market dynamics, and trends that support brand and portfolio objectives.
  • Ensure achievement of the assigned forecast by optimizing team performance through coaching, development, and a winning culture.
  • Role model ethics and integrity to support a culture of compliance and earn trust with external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals in marketing, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 3+ years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hospital customer engagement experience, including leading institutional sales teams.
  • Experience in strategic account management, including leading teams to engage formulary management, obtain product access, and influence decision makers and affiliated community prescribers.
  • Experience in leading the pull-through of inpatient formularies, protocols, pathways, and order sets.
  • Experience in launching new products (preferred).
  • Fosters the highest level of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability to think creatively to achieve results when faced with barriers, collaborating with team members and escalating issues effectively.
  • Understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance environment, and ability to model expected behavior and shape policies.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree

Additional Requirements

  • Employee will be required to establish certain customer credentials, including successful completion of trainings, background screens, drug testing, and vaccinations.
  • Must live and work within the territory; depending on geography, may need to reside within a reasonable distance to a major airport.
  • Valid driver’s license and in good standing.
  • Travel by car or airplane up to 80% of the time and work after hours as required by business needs.
