Role Summary
The Regional Business Leader, Sleep Disorders, leads a sales team to execute strategies for launching a first-in-class orexin therapy in narcolepsy type 1, and to maximize regional sales performance. This role involves hiring, developing, and coaching representatives, building a high-performance culture, and ensuring adherence to company priorities and SOPs. The position requires strategic planning, strong execution, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to drive regional growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the compliant execution of regional and area business strategies to deliver or exceed sales targets.
- Recruit, hire, and coach a team of sales representatives to achieve exceptional sales performance.
- Translate the broader vision into team goals, foster a high-performance culture, remove barriers, and drive immediate and long-term results.
- Foster learning and talent development in partnership with Human Resources and Commercial Learning & Development; provide ongoing performance feedback and development plans.
- Provide regular coaching, performance assessments, and actionable plans to address gaps and prepare talent for increased responsibilities.
- Prioritize field coaching to elevate selling skills and territory management; ensure compliance with SOPs and Takeda’s speak-up culture.
- Manage regional marketing initiatives and resources, including speaker programs, to meet quarterly and annual objectives.
- Develop and execute regional and representative sales plans; monitor region and territory performance to identify growth opportunities.
- Strategically allocate and utilize the sales budget to drive business growth.
- Maintain deep knowledge of key KOLs, top HCPs, Sleep Centers, and IDNs; understand payor landscape and reimbursement insights.
- Collaborate with field partners (patient services, medical, managed markets, etc.) to achieve organizational goals.
- Plan and conduct POA/launch meetings in line with marketing plans.
- Leverage AI and digital tools to improve regional strategy and results; communicate insights and direction across teams.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA).
- 5+ years in a management-level role with a track record of success in pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device industries (e.g., district management, specialty account management, marketing management, training, or product management).
- Prior experience as a pharmaceutical sales representative with proven selling success and healthcare industry knowledge.
- Strong business and strategic planning skills; ability to identify opportunities and adapt to market changes.
- Proven ability to coach, delegate, and motivate a sales team with timely feedback.
- Analytical skills to interpret complex data and develop strategic, actionable insights.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Comfort with emerging technologies and openness to AI-enabled processes.
- Must reside in or near the assigned geography.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License.
- Preferred: MBA or Master’s Degree.
- 3+ years of people leadership experience.
- Experience selling or leading teams in the rare disease space.
- Sleep Disorders experience; pharmaceutical product launch experience.
Additional Requirements
- Travel 50-75% to support the region, including overnights.
