Role Summary
The Regional Business Leader, Sleep Disorders, leads the execution of business strategies to launch a potential first-in-class orexin therapy for narcolepsy type 1. As a first-line leader, this role builds and leads a sales team to ensure sales performance meets or exceeds company objectives. The position owns implementing company priorities to maximize sales results, hires and develops a new team of representatives, and drives execution in a developing therapeutic area for Takeda.
Responsibilities
- Lead the compliant execution of business strategies to deliver or exceed sales expectations at regional and area levels.
- Recruit, hire, and coach a team of sales representatives to achieve exceptional sales performance.
- Translate the broader vision to the team, foster a high-performance culture focused on results, accountability, and development, and remove obstacles to drive immediate and long-term results.
- Foster learning and growth, build capabilities in partnership with Human Resources and Commercial Learning & Development, and retain talent.
- Provide consistent performance expectations and timely feedback, using measurable outcomes and development plans.
- Prioritize field coaching to elevate selling skills and territory management, and promote compliance with SOPs.
- Implement regional marketing strategies and plans, manage resources (including speaker programs) to meet objectives.
- Develop and execute region and representative sales plans quarterly, and analyze region/territory performance to identify growth opportunities.
- Strategically allocate and utilize the sales budget to drive growth.
- Build knowledge of key region KOLs, HCPs, sleep centers, institutions, and IDNs; understand payor landscape and leverage access/reimbursement insights.
- Collaborate with field partners to achieve organizational goals and conduct POA/launch meetings aligned with marketing plans.
- Use AI and digital tools to improve efficiency and results; communicate insights bidirectionally with teams and partners.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
- 5+ years of management-level experience in pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device industries with relevant management or equivalent experience
- Prior experience as a pharmaceutical sales representative with proven success
- Strong business and strategic planning skills and adaptability to market changes
- Ability to coach, delegate, and motivate a sales team with timely feedback
- Ability to analyze complex data to develop strategic actions
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint
- Comfort with emerging technologies and openness to AI-enabled processes
- Must reside in or near the assigned geography
- Preferred:
- MBA or Master’s Degree
- 3+ years of people leadership experience
- Experience selling or leading teams in the rare disease space
- Sleep Disorders experience
- Pharmaceutical product launch experience

- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
Additional Requirements
- Travel 50-75% to support the region, including overnights
- Valid Driver’s License
