Role Summary
The Regional Business Leader, Sleep Disorders, leads the execution of business strategies to launch a potentially novel, first-in-class orexin therapy in narcolepsy type 1. As a first-line leader, this role builds and guides a team of sales representatives to meet or exceed company objectives, owning the implementation of priorities to maximize sales results. The role includes hiring, leading, and developing a new team capable of delivering strong performance in a developing therapeutic area for Takeda.
Responsibilities
- The Regional Business Leader is responsible for leading the compliant execution of business strategies to deliver or exceed sales expectations at Regional and Area level.
- Effectively recruits, hires and coaches a team of sales representatives to deliver exceptional sales performance.
- Translates the broader vision to their team and creates a high-performance culture with accountability and development; removes barriers and emphasizes solution-oriented thinking with a long-term strategic view and immediate results.
- Fosters a learning and growth environment to develop talent, working with leadership teams to build capabilities and opportunities in partnership with HR and Commercial Learning & Development.
- Provides consistent expectations and ongoing feedback as part of performance management, delivering actionable development plans and early identification of performance gaps.
- Prioritizes field coaching to elevate selling skills and territory management; leads by example in compliance with Takeda’s speak-up culture and SOPs.
- Implements marketing strategies and plans regionally, managing resources including speaker programs to meet objectives.
- Develops and executes the Region sales plan and quarterly representative sales plans to ensure objectives are achieved.
- Analyzes region and territory performance to identify growth opportunities and improve effectiveness.
- Leads strategic allocation and utilization of the sales budget to drive growth.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of key region KOLs, top HCPs, Sleep Centers, and institutions/IDNs.
- Gains command of the payor landscape and reimbursement insights to grow the business.
- Works compliantly with field partners to achieve goals.
- Plans and conducts POA/launch meetings aligned with marketing plans and programs.
- Leverages AI and digital tools to enhance regional and territory strategic thinking and results delivery.
- Maintains proactive, bi-directional communication across the RBL team, sales leadership, and internal partners to share insights and directions.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
- Required: 5+ years of management-level experience with a proven track record in pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device industries (e.g., district management, specialty account management, marketing management, training, product management)
- Required: Prior experience as a pharmaceutical sales representative with proven success in selling and understanding the healthcare industry
- Required: Demonstrated business and strategic planning skills to identify opportunities and adapt to changing market conditions
- Required: Ability to coach, delegate, and motivate a sales team with timely feedback
- Required: Ability to analyze complex data to develop strategic actions
- Required: Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Required: Proficiency in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint
- Required: Comfortable with emerging technologies, adaptable to digital tools, and open to AI-enabled processes
- Required: Must reside in or within close proximity to assigned geography
Education
- Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
Travel Requirements
- Travel 50-75% to support the region, including overnights
- Ability to drive or fly to various meetings/client sites to work with sales professionals and attend local and national meetings/trainings
