Role Summary
The Rare Condition Clinical Specialist (RCCS) promotes the Rare Condition portfolio, develops deep product and disease state knowledge, and engages in face-to-face clinical dialogue with multi-specialty healthcare professionals to support pull-through activities and position Ascendis Pharma as a valued partner to healthcare professionals and their patients.
Responsibilities
- The RCCS will promote the Rare Condition portfolio and develop superior product and disease state knowledge to engage in appropriate face-to-face clinical dialogue with multi-specialty healthcare professionals.
- Use product knowledge and selling skills to engage in customized client discussions based on specific customer needs in a compliant and ethical manner.
- Drive performance to ensure sales forecasts are met or exceeded.
- Execute strategies and tactics and invest budget and resources to drive territory expectations while focusing on customer and patient needs.
- Maintain understanding of local market, practice structures, business models, and key influencers.
- Call on Pediatric Endocrinologists, Geneticists, Orthopedics, Endocrinologists, and Pediatricians as primary customers and navigate complex referral networks.
- Demonstrate tenacity in challenging market access scenarios.
- Use analytical tools to understand and evaluate the business to accomplish sales objectives and allocate resources effectively and ethically.
- Develop, communicate, and execute a business plan to achieve and surpass goals and deliver on sales objectives and behaviors.
- Collaborate with peers and internal stakeholders to maximize impact of resources for pull-through value within the territory and across Ascendis.
- Sell on approved indications and product efficacy/safety profiles to support on-label prescribing for appropriate patients.
- Demonstrate administrative excellence to manage work hours, sales call data, customer objectives responses, samples and expense reporting, and other administrative items.
- Partner with the access team to develop strategies that drive access to the brand.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of pharmaceutical sales experience; preferably rare disease and/or specialty therapeutics
- Proven history of strong performance
- Demonstrated high clinical acumen
- Ability to be resilient and flexible in a rapidly changing environment
- Experience with complex distribution systems and HUB services to ensure smooth customer experience
- Thrives in a collaborative, accountability-based team
- Self-starter with hunter mentality, strong decision-making, judgment, and ethics
- Experience in a multi-specialty environment to address customer needs compliantly
- Ability to develop a successful business plan based on customer and patient needs
- Ability to analyze data/metrics to assess progress and diagnose performance issues
- Experience establishing new customer relationships and communicating technical information effectively
- Ability to meet credentialing requirements as needed
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Overnight travel required
