Role Summary

Project Engineer-Design Lead. Responsible for leading design delivery for capital projects within Global Facilities Delivery, coordinating with Project Manager and A/E firms, and ensuring design meets requirements and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in identifying applicable Engineering Design Standards, Engineering Functional Standards, Engineering Specifications and Regulatory requirements and guidance (internal and external).
  • Be responsible for the overall design delivery for capital projects.
  • Coordinate all design activities for the Project Manager during all design phases and deliver conceptual and basic design reviews.
  • Direct the development of the design requirements.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of the design schedule to meet project needs.
  • Participate in the selection of A/E firms.
  • Coordinate with A/E firms to develop earned value progress systems to measure progress by discipline.
  • Expedite design decisions and coordinate information flow between the design team and system owners.
  • Ensure the design meets approved intent through interactions among design firms, specialists, engineering centers, and end users.
  • Oversee design activities and governance, resolving design-related problems.
  • Identify inefficiencies and develop strategies to improve design hours performance.
  • Assist in developing SOPs, project delivery work instructions, and best practices related to design/verification and keep them current with industry best practices.
  • Review and approve key design project personnel with the Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Tech Center resources and other project team members to address design issues.
  • Ensure replication of designs where applicable.
  • Support value engineering efforts to maximize project opportunities.
  • Review design-related invoices prior to approval and participate in KPI reviews/assessments.
  • Participate in the selection of verification professional services.
  • Accountable for the development of the Project Verification Plan, Traceability Matrix, and risk assessments (not necessary to lead execution).
  • Coordinate verification for the Project Manager during the verification phase.
  • Accountable for discrepancy tracking and management in the Verification phase.

Qualifications

  • Required: BS in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred).
  • Required: Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing and/or engineering experience in support of pharmaceutical or API networks.
  • Preferred: Pharmaceutical process or project engineer experience.

  • Understanding of capital project delivery process, A/E design activities, and Lilly technical resources
  • Ability to frame complex decisions, facilitate to a decision, and implement according to plan
  • Ability to build credibility and influence to align decision-makers across sites, engineering, and stakeholders
  • Experience facilitating issue resolution, anticipating scope changes, and executing projects safely with quality, speed, and value
  • Willingness to relocate and travel; ability to work remotely with limited supervision

Education

  • BS in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred)

Additional Requirements

  • Travel can be domestic and international, about 25% on average, depending on project phase.
  • Potential co-location at A/E firm or job site to support C&Q activities as needed.
