Role Summary
This role has accountability for ensuring all Capital projects within Americas have the right capability, capacity and ways of working within the project controls discipline. The Director oversees cost, schedule, risk, change and document management processes to ensure successful delivery of capital projects. The Director will support multi-site, multi-phase projects across manufacturing, R&D, and supply chain operations and will report to the Head of Project Controls as part of Global project controls leadership.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement project controls strategy across the pharma capital project portfolio.
- Lead a team of project controls professionals across global or regional sites.
- People management and overseeing project controls resources in the region, including coaching, mentoring and onboarding.
- Ensure alignment with GCP Project Management framework.
- Engage with leading Project Control service providers globally to build on best practice.
- Oversee development of detailed cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts for projects ranging from 10M to 500M+.
- Ensure integrated project schedules reflect critical GMP milestones, commissioning, validation, and regulatory timelines.
- Apply Earned Value Management and other performance metrics to track progress and identify variances.
- Implement proactive risk management strategies and active management of risks and opportunities.
- Ensure Quantified Risk Analysis in project cost and schedule using Monte Carlo methodologies.
- Lead change control processes with traceability and impact assessment through contract administration and commercial management.
- Provide executive-level reporting and dashboards to senior leadership and capital steering committees.
- Ensure transparency and traceability of project performance, risks, and financials.
- Perform Project Reviews, Independent Project Reviews and health checks to ensure effective project controls and early issue detection.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and act as a key advisor to project sponsors and site leadership.
- Hands-on experience with project management tools including SAP, Oracle P6, MSP Sypro, Monte Carlo simulation tools, visible reporting, earned value management, benchmarking and value assessment.
Qualifications
- Required: BSc/BEng in a relevant discipline or Chartered Engineer; 15+ years delivering advanced planning and project controls across multiple geographies; experience with stage gate models; experience in Planning, Cost Management, Commercial management, Contract management and Project management; experience with contract negotiation and risk; experience with Scope, Risk, Change Management and Forecasting; stakeholder management with senior executives; experience in project management, execution planning, construction management, scheduling and progress management, cost management and value engineering.
- Preferred: MSc or PhD or Chartered/Professional qualification; excellent management and communication skills; understanding of how functions interface on GS projects; knowledge of GSK project processes, quality/compliance requirements, site project processes; familiarity with GCP PMF andQuality Management Systems; certifications such as PMP, CCP, PMI-SP, Lean Six Sigma or similar.
