Process Development Engineer I (Preclinical Manufacturing & Process Development β PMPD Purification)
When & Where
- Full-time, standard business hours
- On-site, supporting process development laboratories and pilot-scale environments
- Minimal to no travel; on-site presence required
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy custom automation solutions for lab and pilot-scale process development equipment
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, identify bottlenecks, and improve workflow efficiency and data capture
- Participate in the full system lifecycle: concept development through deployment and technology transfer
- Develop control logic (e.g., PLC), HMIs, and supporting software
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with custom automation systems and supporting infrastructure
- Maintain and improve automation systems for reliability, performance, and usability
- Identify enhancements to reduce manual intervention and improve robustness/scalability
- Monitor system performance and address issues affecting uptime or data integrity
- Support integration with data platforms and PI historian; develop/maintain data flows for monitoring, trending, and reporting
- Troubleshoot communication issues between devices, control systems, and data infrastructure
Must-haves / Qualifications
- BS (3β5 years) or MS (0β2 years) in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical) or related field
- Strong background in downstream bioprocessing OR automation/controls/software development
- Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting with reliability-focused attention to detail
- Ability to communicate technical concepts and prepare/maintain technical documentation and reports
Preferred / Nice-to-haves
- Industrial automation/control systems experience
- Python or similar programming
- Control logic experience (e.g., sequential function charts, state-based control)
- Industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC, Modbus TCP)
- SCADA/HMI platforms (e.g., Ignition)
- Data historians/data infrastructure (e.g., AVEVA PI)
