Process Chemistry Principal Scientist

Role: Principal Scientist leading preparative chromatography and kilo-scale drug substance purification at Vertex's VMC Kilo Lab. Objectives include developing, optimizing, and scaling-up HPLC, SFC, and other chromatography methods for small molecule APIs in a cGMP environment, supporting new therapeutic modalities. Responsibilities encompass executing complex purification campaigns, establishing lab infrastructure, performing kilo-lab synthesis, collaborating with process chemistry, and building peptide/oligonucleotide purification capabilities. The role involves authoring GMP documentation, leading cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. Requirements: Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with 4+ years industry experience or relevant education with 7–10+ years in analytical and preparative chromatography, drug substance development, with hands-on expertise in large-scale purification, cGMP compliance, and process chemistry. Proven leadership, technical mentorship, and strong communication skills are essential. High-Value: expertise in preparative chromatography (HPLC, SFC, IEX, SEC), cGMP drug substance manufacturing, multi-step kilo-lab synthesis, and developing oligonucleotide purification platforms; experience authoring GMP documents; cross-disciplinary collaboration.
